So I just started watching Spider-man Unlimited on Netflix. This show is fucking rediculous. Space travel and alternate universes and lasers? I honestly can’t decide if this is retarded or the awesomest thing ever. Wait… Did he just quote John Paul Jones!? THE FUCK is this?!
Why is it uncool to ROCK in this day amd age? I mean I understand that times change, and that rock music is probably becoming outdated in the way that jazz did in the mid 20th century. I’ve finally accepted that rock music is nearly dead. As sad as I am about that fact, the most frustrating thing for me is that there is nothing beyond rock music that is exciting or compelling to me. I’ve tried so hard to be excited about hip hop, and as much as I respect great lyricists, and people who are skilled at rapping, I can’t get excited by it MUSICALLY. Between hip hop, the dj scene, and acts like Girl Talk, there seems to be a trend in my generation towards sampling. I think sampling is neat, and I can respect someome who does it well, but it doesn’t have the energy and soul of something PERFORMED by a person who CREATED it. I like indie rock. The current “indie scene”, however, is boring and frustating. Bands like The National and The Walkmen are constistantly getting praised for creating B- or C+ music. Okay, sidebar, this post is turning out to be crankier and rantier than I originally intended. Sorry. My point is, I guess, that musicianship is not only on the decline, it’s unfashionable. I wish more songs were full of life and human energy. I wish more music had extensive horn sections, kick ass drum beats, melodic guitar solos, soulful vocals, funky bass lines, quality songwriting and musical craftsmanship. I also wish I were less closed-minded and stuck in my ways.
Everytime I give a song thumbs down on my pandora radio station, the next song they play is Muse. I’m perfectly happy with this arrangement.
I just saw THOR. They fuckin’ NAILED it!
